What we commonly do with emotion

Most humans really struggle to deal with challenging emotion like fear,pain,anger or frustration .

Our common patterns include;

  • We want to resist them and judge ourselves for having them,
  • We try to suppress them, which can makes us sick physically or mentally.
  • We project them onto others, mostly without any idea we are doing it.
  • Or possibly we may overly ruminate, contributing to the creation of further negative emotion.

All of these patterns keep our challenging emotions stuck.

We need to truly and compassionately meet our emotion

The way beyond these emotions is to truly and compassionately meet them. Our inner being needs to be loved, accepted and understood or it will not want to move on.

How to practically witness emotion

At a practical level we can do this by being present with the breath for a few minutes. Then with compassionate awareness simply witness the emotion, notice how it feels in the body, be curious about it. In other words bring presence to the emotion. Often it will start to ease.
This process may also facilitate insight coming.For example, you may gain insight that the reason you have been feeling down is because you have not been true to yourself in some way.Insight is more likely to come if we simply bring presence to the emotion, it is not about analyzing, Analysis tends to keep us stuck in thought and is less loving.

Aim to truly meet everything that you are experiencing with compassion.
